Welcome to the MSAQ website!
This site is currently being updated. Thanks for your patience in the meantime! Please check back shortly for details of 2008 events, including the annual lecture, student symposium, and music research luncheon.
MSAQ is the Queensland Chapter of the Musicological
Society of Australia (MSA). It is committed to providing exposure
and advocacy for established forms of music research, to actively supporting
emerging approaches to music research, and to encouraging young music
researchers, particularly at graduate level.
Members of MSAQ are involved in many areas
of music research, including historical musicology, music analysis, practice-based
research, ethnomusicology, popular music studies, Australian music studies,
and cultural studies. In this way, MSAQ is well equipped to support a
wide range of serious research interests in music.
The MSAQ committee organises a number of
annual musicological events, including the MSAQ
Annual Lecture , and a Student Symposium
. The Student Symposium also incorporates the presentation of the Gordon
Spearritt Prize for best student presentation.
MSAQ also supports other occasional events relevant to music research.
News of these, and all other Queensland-based events,
is distributed to members via a periodic email
bulletin, and via the national MSA. MSAQ holds an Annual General Meeting in March of every year.
Becoming a member involves joining the national
MSA. Each of the MSA's chapters is affiliated with the national body,
and membership benefits are provided by both the national society, and
by the relevant state chapter.
