The information below has been superceded.
This register lists titles of music theses in progress or completed since 1995 for doctoral, masters, and graduate diploma awards at universities in Australia and New Zealand. It is an update of the register published in last year’s journal. Updated information includes theses awarded since the last publication, new theses-in-progress entries, and corrections to entries in last year’s register.
The register has been developed in co-operation with music departments and student administration records and is dependent upon the information supplied by them. No distinction is made between degrees awarded by thesis only, or those which require combinations of thesis and coursework or thesis and performance. Each listing is given a reference code containing a letter which categorises the thesis as doctoral (P), masters (M) or graduate diploma (G).
The register is organised into six broad subject classifications. These are consistent with those which appeared when the register was published by Studies in Music, although they have been expanded to take into account an increased interest in Australasian studies, popular music and traditional music. Though some topics may fall into more than one category, each thesis is listed once only under a subject category designated by the author or university. Within these classifications, thesis titles are listed in alphabetical order by author’s surname. The year in which a degree was awarded is given after the name of the awarding institution. Entries for theses which have not yet been completed are designated ‘in progress’.
